Implants are not only for humans, but also for spaces.
Intervention in plastic
40 cm x 57 cm

Implants are not only for humans, but also for spaces. It first happened in an atrium at the Karlsruhe City Hospital. The floor is covered in gravel. Here and there, moss pushes some rocks apart. The walls are showing their age. The space feels like it has been left to its own devices, like no-one is paying attention to it. It is functional. It allows light into the corridors and for water to run off.

Right here, a subtle surgical procedure is being performed. A piece of the gravel floor is removed and replaced by an imitation. The floor receives a plastic implant, which has no function but will still be there when everything else has long decayed.

This artwork was part of the exhibition project “Fremdkörper” with Omer Fast at the Karlsruhe City Hospital. All projects were based on artistic research at the institution, where they have been shown later.
